You cower from the metal that cuts your throat
Razes you to the ground and builds upon your ashes
Mute warning cries long lost
In the myriad of mycelium
Lying in tatters on broken ground.
I watch from a train window as
Fractured ecosystems
Blow into the path of oncoming winds
Sadness splintering my thoughts
Faces of strangers
Unaware this fatal erosion,
This shrinking of our natural world
Is happening
Because we are lost
In a world of fiction
Peering into lives
That make little or no sense.
