Like most critics you commented on the ridiculousness of the plot of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. We finished reading it in a restaurant overlooking the sea, drinking Aperol. Most men are snakes, you concluded. I mentioned how I had recently listened to a podcast titled, ‘Shakespeare’s Sex Life’. The guest on the show explained how the ‘Nothing’ is a pun referring to the labia. You rolled your eyes and sucked your apple-flavoured vape. I asked for a puff and you handed it to me. You grinned when I choked.
