Fifteen years ago, you used to joke
about that shirt you’d had forever,
black washed out to faded grey,
big bold checks, indestructible
old school polyester on your conscience,
price per wear close to zero,
even then. Now it’s gone to landfill
but you and me? We’re still here.
It’s our silver anniversary next year,
you and me, still holding together.
Scottish, English and French, Benedicta Norell grew up in London and lives in Oxford. After her MA in Creative Writing, she worked as an editorial assistant then became a freelance editor of fiction and memoir. Her poems have appeared in various literary magazines, including Dust Poetry, Atrium Poetry, Ink Sweat and Tears, The Nuthatch, and the inaugural edition of Blue Press.
